Happy Valentine's Day, everybody!

Hubby and I had dinner reservations to go eat haggis for Burns Night tonight, but it started raining like crazy at around two this morning and didn’t stop ‘til around two this afternoon. Houston has a huge drainage problem, so it’s too flooded for us to reach the restaurant Downtown. *sadface*

Hubby and I got tired of sitting in our electricity-less house, so once it stopped raining in our neighborhood (which has better drainage than Houston-proper) we went to our local Asian grocery store (which did have power) to entertain ourselves looking at all the cool food and stuff.

Which is where I discovered my new addiction: coconut Pocky. I’d never seen coconut Pocky before, so of course I had to get one. OMG! *flails* I loooovvvvveeeeee coconut Pocky!

Been seeing some disheartening things in fandom lately.

I know that no matter what I say (or fail to say), I will make some people angry because I disagree with them on ‘hot button’ topics. Here’s hoping voicing some of my thoughts won’t cost me too much grief or companionship. *fingers crossed*

I have read a lot of arguments, and have come to a couple of conclusions:

1. There will always be disagreement over whether dark subject matter fantasy is harmless or dangerous.
2. There will always be people who entertain themselves by deliberately provoking outrage in others.

Personally, when I find a comm/meme/feed/blog/etc offensive or upsetting, I simply withdraw from it; I have no intention of keeping up with any hobby/pastime that fails to entertain me. I don’t announce to them that they offend me, because that will only feed the trolls; I just leave.

Oddly, my refusal to contribute to online arguments makes some people very upset with me.

I have a very clear grasp that most Internet Fandom posts are just noise. While I certainly would (and have) taken a stand in instances of real harm occurring, I tend to ignore the empty Pretend Land versions.

Silence does not always equal agreement; sometimes it just means ‘your insubstantial words bore me’.

March was when our son celebrated his 17th birthday, and we got him an iPhone. He just loved it. Who wouldn't?

I celebrated my birthday in July, and my wife made me very happy when she bought me an iPad.

Our daughter's birthday was in August so we got her an iPod Touch.

My wife celebrated her birthday in September so I got her an iRon.

It was around then that the fight started...

I explained that the iRon can be integrated into the home network with the iWash, iCook and iClean. (This inevitably activates the iNag reminder service.)

I should be out of the hospital next week!!

I’m probably the last person in fandom to read Future Tense by (selecasharp on LJ) and couldn’t I just kick myself for that!

Summary: While on a case, Sam and Dean are given a vision of the future-- a future in which they've stopped the apocalypse and are now, apparently, involved. Dean's convinced that it's another trick and insists that they forget it, but Sam can't let it --any of it-- go.

Reccer’s Note: Alternate ending to S5, set after 5x14 My Bloody Valentine. This is hands-down the best, most true-to-canon SN casefic I’ve ever read! selecasharp nailed the characterizations better than I’ve ever seen, and the details unfailingly matched the canon world of the Winchesters. I wasn’t just delighted, I was dazzled.

Today is my nineteenth wedding anniversary.

Yes, you read that right: I have been married to the same person for the last nineteen years.

We spent the day out together, had a nice dinner, then drank too much beer at a really cool new pub. Ladies and gentlemen, I am drunk on Moose Drool. *L*

I had some time to read fanfic! \o/ Live To Cheer by aythia (@LJ) is super-cute!

Summary: High school. School spirit. Cheerleading means everything to Jensen Ackles, it's who he is. It doesn't mean anything to Jared Padalecki, not to begin with. Sometimes a simple little bet is all it takes to change everything.

I love me some J2 high school romance! Yummmmmy! Oh.Mah.Gawd cheerleaders! *squeeee* More shoomp than angst, which is just what I wanted. This had different takes on the characters (including some familiar CW faces) than is typical, I’m pleased to say. It was a great romp, with adorable chibi art that really added to the mood of the story.

And did I say J2 as cheerleaders? *\o/*

Does anyone know where I can find a HQ screencap from SN 7x08 of Sam (the back of him) looking at Becky's 'job' wall? I am lame and cannot find one. *hangs head in shame*

ETA: Found it! 'Cause [profile] lylithj2 is waaayyyy more together than I am. Thanks, sweetie!

[personal profile] ldyghst’s delicious [community profile] spn_reversebang artwork led me to the wonderfully atmospheric, Period vampire J2 AU Cold Mirrors All Around by [profile] pinkwithoutplot.

This story is a Victorian Horror done right; where the ‘evil’ is displayed unrepentantly/irredeemably, yet with a human, tragic quality to it. It’s creepy in the best possible way, full of longing, messy sex (the best kind) and a deft touch of mystery. I felt a little anxious over whether there would be a happy ending or not, but the story never got depressing. That’s a rare balance, and I appreciate it.
